Based on studies at WebMD, two in five people in the U.S. suffer from an allergy or have asthma, 100 percent of homes with pets have detectable levels of pet dander, indoor air quality is half as good as the outdoors, and we spend 90% of our time indoors. With spring in bloom and pets shedding their winter coats, allergy season is in full swing, so you should start taking steps now to minimize their effect on you and your family.
Rob Earling, one of the spokesmen from Charlotte HVAC states that first step that should be taken to rid your house of allergens is to figure out what exactly is causing the symptoms in the first place. Allergies and asthma are health conditions that cleaning alone can't cure, he said. If you are proactive in reducing the source of the contaminant that is triggering these reactions it will be the most important way to keep your indoor air clean.
HVAC and air duct cleaning is recommended by a certified hvac contractor and be thorough in order to remove allergens like dust, dander, insect remains, and bacteria from the air distribution system. It is also suggested that you have a high quality ultraviolet lighting system installed into the ductwork. Even the cleanest homes have viruses, bacteria, dust, pet dander, pollen dust mites, and other germs floating in the air. The UV rays break through the cell wall of organisms, damage the DNA and make the organism unable to reproduce.
Also, a good quality pleated air filter with ratings of at least 11, should be used when changing the filters. Not only will this improve the indoor air quality to combat allergy symptoms, but it will improve the efficiency of your system and save energy and money.
