Top 4 Steps to Cut Down On Allergies Inside Your House

It seems like just as the weather warms up in the spring, those with allergies start to sneeze and sniffle. This can last all the way to the first hard frost in the fall. Most of the problem is outside. But a lot of it may be indoors as well. Pollen and ragweed cant be blamed for all of the hay fever experienced during this spring and summer. Here are ways to get rid of allergens in your home.

Keep mice and cockroaches out

These nasty little things cause a lot of trouble and that includes bringing allergens into your house. Use store-bought means to get rid of them, or if they are especially persistent, call the exterminator. Then you should seal up cracks, openings or any place where they may be able to find their way inside.

Have your duct work professionally cleaned

During the warm, humid weather of spring and summer, allergens like mold and mildew can grow in your ductwork and spread their trouble throughout your home when the air conditioner runs. Call a heating and cooling company and discuss having your ductwork cleaned as soon as possible. Some allergens cant be controlled you cant stop nature from producing pollen. But, there are quite a few sources of allergens that we can definitely do something about.

Lower the humidity in your home

Humid conditions give dust mites, molds and other organic allergens the greatest chance to thrive. Keeping your homes relative humidity below 50% is essential. The best way to do this is to have a central air conditioner that is in good working condition, along with a furnace or air handler that keeps air moving through the system so moisture can be eliminated. Have a qualified heating and air conditiong company check out your system and make sure it is in good working order so it does not break down during the middle of the summer. And if you dont currently have a central air conditioning, consider adding one to the existing system in your home.

Filters!

Your car has filters. Your dehumidifier has a filter. The furnace or air handler in your home that helps to circulate cooled air has a filter. Keep these filters cleaned or replaced according to the manufacturers suggestions.

The 4 areas weve mentioned will be a good start for ridding your home of the causes of sniffling and sneezing.
