Around the House with Companion Care

If your aging loved one is feeling lonely because he or she can't get out like before, companion care might just be the right solution for you. Regardless of whether you live near or far away, you don't need to be the only social interaction and support your loved one receives. A companion can help him or her stay active, alert and entertained.

Companion care companies offer a wide variety of different services to their clients. Though they don't have extensive medical training, their presence and helpfulness can make many previously impossible activities once again possible for your loved one. Whatever it is your loved one needs help with around the house or out and about, a companion can be there to assist.

One of the great things about hiring a companion for your loved one is that they can continue doing what they love. Gardening and yard work often become impossible and even unsafe as a person ages, but with someone there to help them do it, they can once again return to this passion.

Playing games is a great way to spend time but you can't do it alone. If your loved one has a hand for cards or enjoys board games and puzzles, a companion can give them an opponent. The caring people who become companions for the elderly enjoy spending time with their clients and are committed to creating a fun relationship.

If your loved one has already kept up a correspondence when old friends and family members, a companion can help out with all that writing. Many elderly people find their wrists, hands and arms give out as they age. This can make writing, particularly large amounts, difficult, painful or impossible. Birthday and holidays cards and childhood stories can be written by a companion scribe, too, if your loved one so chooses.

A companion can also offer care outside of the home. Going to doctor's appointments, attending events and visiting family and friends can all be made easier with the help of a companion. Your loved one likely does not want to take your time away from your busy life and family. A companion can let them be independent from you but still get to do the things they want and need to do.

Some companions can help around the house with repairs, too. Putting in handrails and other safety upgrades can be made, too. This helps your loved one be safer in their home when they are alone.

Companion care makes it possible for aging relatives and friends to go grocery shopping and keep their house tidy without having to overburden their friends and relatives. Plus, by not having to depend on busy schedules for support, your loved one will have more freedom and support when a companion is around and available.
