Using Kettlebells for Weight Loss

Kettlebells, which have been around for a long time, are just now becoming popular in the West as a way to improve fitness and lose weight. The swing is one of the most basic kettlebell exercises. This exercise is performed by picking up the kettlebell from a standing position and swinging it between your legs. This exercise puts the emphasis on your hips and legs rather than the upper body and can be performed with one or both hands. Do the swing in a fluid, relaxed manner, inhaling on the way down, exhaling at the top of the movement. If you do this exercise, you'll notice that it not only works many different muscle groups, especially your core, but that it gets your heart rate going as well, so you're definitely going to be burning calories. To help avoid an injury, be sure to use a weight that you're comfortable with when you first start. When you start using kettlebells, you want to make sure you're using them safely and correctly. It's a bad idea to just begin lifting them with some random technique, as you could hurt yourself and you won't be getting all the benefits you can get out of them. You may want to look for a kettlebell class at your local fitness center, or you could get a good instructional DVD. You can furthermore discover some wonderful instructions on the web, on YouTube and an array of video sites. While you want to work out reliably, you also don't want to be in too much of a scurry. Don't strive to work out every single day, nevertheless always rest for one day in between workouts and raise the amount of weight slowly.

The real key to weight loss is burning more calories than you take in a day. Kettlebells help you do this more efficiently because you can use them to do fast, intense workouts that increase your metabolism. You also need to watch how many calories you take in.

You need to make sure you are giving your body the nourishment it needs while also watching your overall intake of calories and focusing on eating healthy foods. Even the best exercise routine won't give you long term results without the right diet. The people who are most successful at losing weight are those who realize that both of these elements have to be given equal treatment.

You may find that kettlebells are just what you need to get you working out consistently and losing excess weight. They offer a total body workout that includes both cardio and resistance training. Like any exercise program, though, you have to take it seriously and give it some time to work. Kettlebells aren't new but they are the workout of the future.
