There are many strategies for treating autism. Unfortunately, there is no one method that can completely cure autism, but many treatments can help with various symptoms and help the autistic person to communicate more effectively. Because there are so many varieties of autism, the same treatment will not work best for everyone. The methods used to treat autism that we'll be discussing here have been used successfully, though in some cases they are controversial.
One innovative autism treatment is called Auditory Integration Therapy (AIT). This involves changing the autistic person's sensitivity to various sounds by exposing them to different frequencies. One common symptom of autism is an extreme sensitivity to lights and sounds. By exposing them gradually to different frequencies of sound, in some cases this oversensitivity can be reduced. Yet the goal is more than this, and apparently this can also alleviate some other symptoms of autism as well. This is a treatment of autism that is still being researched, and while some results are promising, it still remains to be seen how effective it really is. You should pull on a nice pair of anne et valentin eyewear in order to truly focus on this unique notion.
Music therapy is another treatment for autism that may prove to be important in helping people with this condition.
This may include exposing the autistic person to various types of music, singing, playing instruments or dancing. As autistic people are extra sensitive to their environments, including sound, music therapy is a way to make them more comfortable. Some researchers also believe that certain tones can stimulate parts of the brain, which may help autistic people develop skills and feel less threatened by the outside world. Music therapy has to be individualized to every patient, as autistic people start out with differing levels of tolerance for sounds and human interaction. With this type of treatment, the exposure is gentle at first and gradually increased as the person's comfort level increases.
For people with Asperger's Syndrome, who are able to function fairly normally, certain types of treatment are possible that wouldn't be for those with more severe types of autism. For people with Asperger's Syndrome, who can function in a normal manner, specific kinds of treatment are probable that may not be for those that have more serious types of autism. For example, people with Asperger's can often be helped by Cognitive Behavior Therapy, a way of training someone to develop more positive and helpful ways of behaving. In the case of autism, it can be helpful to learn new social skills, and to learn how to act in ways that others don't find strange or off-putting. Therapy can help high functioning autistic people understand how they are expected to act in everyday situations, and can then improve their skills.
It is never easy to treat someone with autism, as this is a condition people are born with and involves the way their brain works. Yet some of the treatments we've covered in this article have proven to be effective, at least for some people. Before you decide on an autism treatment for someone in your family, you have to carefully consider their specific needs and what they are likely to respond to. In many cases, several different approaches have to be tried before finding the best one.
